ADVANCE MATH PLACEMENT LEGISLATION - Senate Bill 704
Students have been placed in a math course according to 2023-24 academic performance and consultation with a student's math teacher. If a student is not initially placed in an advanced math course or learning opportunity, a parent and/or student may request an end of grade (EOG) or end of course (EOC) assessment for the purpose of determining math placement for the 2024-2025school year.
Based on the legislation, parents have the following options:
- If your child has not been placed in an advanced math course or advanced math learning opportunity, and you wish for your student to be included in this opportunity, you may request an EOG or EOC assessment. The request must be submitted on the 2023-24 End-of-Grade and End-of-Course. Completed forms must be submitted by Monday August 31 to the school site administrator.
- If your child has been placed in an advanced math course or advanced math learning opportunity, and you do not wish for your student to be included in this opportunity, you must put your request in writing to the school site administrator by Friday, August 28, 2024.
- If you feel your child's math placement is appropriate, there are no actions to be taken at this time.
If you have questions regarding your child's initial math placement, please contact the school site administrator. All math placement assessments must be complete by September 4, 2024. Any student scoring at the highest level of the math end-of-grade or end-of-course test shall be placed in the appropriate advanced math course or learning activity.
