  • Dear Parents and Guardians,

We thank you and your family for being our valued partners as we work together to provide the highest quality education to our students. The district has partnered with Panorama, a student survey and student social emotional platform, to support us in administering social-emotional student surveys. We chose Panorama because they align with the same framework our Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) program is centered around - the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) framework. The CASEL framework identifies five core major competencies: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. Our surveys were created to measure these same competencies.

We are excited to announce that the Panorama Family Survey and Panorama Student Survey is currently open!  We are asking students in grades 3 and higher to complete a Panorama survey about social emotional learning for Hertford County Public Schools. The survey will  help HCPS and school administrators better understand what students think about their school experiences and their social and emotional learning. With  students returning to school after months of virtual learning it is essential  for HCPS to understand how students and families feel and how that has changed since the pandemic.

We will be asking students to reflect on their own mindsets and approaches to learning via a digital survey they will be completing during a scheduled class time. The survey should not take students more than 10-15 minutes to  complete.

We also ask families to complete the Panorama Family Survey about their experiences with HCPS and students’ social and emotional learning.  Please click on your child(ren) school link below to complete survey:

Surveys will close May 31, 2023 at 5pm.

  • The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) is beginning a process to overhaul school performance grades and is seeking public input through a new survey. The state’s A-F performance grades were developed so communities could better understand the quality of North Carolina’s public schools, but a growing consensus has led many to believe that the current model does not accurately reflect all aspects of school quality because it puts too much weight on student achievement as determined by high-stakes testing.
