Initially Licensed Teachers

Initially Licensed Teachers
Initial Licenses are valid for three years.  To be issued an IPL, an individual must have:

  • Completed a state-approved teacher education program from a regionally accredited college or university, or
  • Completed another state’s approved alternative route to licensure, met the federal requirements to be designated as “Highly Qualified,” and earned a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college.

All teachers who hold Initial Professional Licenses are required to participate in a three year induction program with a formal orientation, mentor support, observations, and evaluations prior to the recommendation for Continuing Professional License. The Chief Human Resource Officer is responsible for verifying the eligibility of Beginning Teachers (BTs) for a continuing license. The support team for the BTs consist of the Chief Human Resource Officer, BT Coordinator, School Administrators, Lead Mentors, and Mentors.
