Hertford County Public Schools is committed to helping employees receive appropriate care when a work-related injury occurs. To help ensure proper reporting, treatment, and claim processing, employees should follow the steps below as soon as an injury happens.

Report the Injury Immediately

If you are injured while performing your job duties, please report the injury immediately to your principal, assistant principal, supervisor, or school designee. They will direct you to the school’s Workers’ Compensation designee, who will assist you with the required forms and next steps.

Even if the injury seems minor at first, it is important to report it before leaving the worksite whenever possible. Prompt reporting helps protect both the employee and the district and allows the workers’ compensation process to begin in a timely manner.

Seek Appropriate Medical Care

Hertford County Public Schools has an approved medical provider for workers’ compensation injuries and claims. Employees should not schedule an appointment with their personal physician for a work-related injury unless directed to do so through the workers’ compensation process.

Before going to the approved medical provider, please contact your school’s Workers’ Compensation designee or Central Office so the appropriate paperwork can be completed.

In Case of Emergency

If the injury is serious or requires immediate emergency care, seek emergency medical attention right away. When possible, notify your supervisor, principal, assistant principal, or school designee as soon as it is safe to do so.

At the emergency room, please let the provider know that the injury is work-related and that a workers’ compensation claim will be filed through your employer, Hertford County Public Schools.

Insurance Information

Please do not provide your personal health insurance card for treatment related to a work-related injury. Instead, inform the medical provider that the injury occurred at work and that the claim should be handled through workers’ compensation.

If verification is needed, the provider may contact your school or Robin Knight at Central Office.

Required Paperwork

The Workers’ Compensation designee will assist with completing the required reports and paperwork.

Please provide any medical notes, work restrictions, follow-up appointment information, or return-to-work documentation to your Workers’ Compensation designee and Robin Knight at Central Office as soon as possible.

Timely Reporting Is Important

Delays in reporting a work-related injury may affect the workers’ compensation claim process and could result in a claim being delayed or denied. Employees are encouraged to report injuries immediately so the district can respond appropriately and ensure all required steps are completed.

Saturday: 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

Lunch Closure: 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. daily

Before reporting to Aulander Medical Practice, please notify your principal, supervisor, or Workers’ Compensation designee so that the appropriate workers’ compensation paperwork can be completed.

If an injury occurs after normal business hours and is not an emergency, report the injury to your supervisor or Workers’ Compensation designee as soon as possible and follow their instructions regarding medical treatment.

If the injury is serious or life-threatening, seek emergency medical attention immediately by calling 911 or going to the nearest emergency room. As soon as possible, notify your principal, supervisor, or Workers’ Compensation designee so that the workers’ compensation claim process can begin.

Remember:

• Report all work-related injuries immediately, even if they seem minor.
• Notify your supervisor before leaving work, whenever possible.
• Follow the directions of your Workers’ Compensation designee regarding medical treatment and paperwork.
• Provide any medical notes, work restrictions, and return-to-work documentation promptly.
