    Hertford County Teacher Housing – Hertford Pointe

    Working with the Partners for Hertford County Public Schools Foundation, SECU Foundation provided an interest-free loan to fund the construction of a 24-unit apartment complex to assist in the recruitment and retention of highly qualified teachers in Hertford County. The apartment complex, Hertford Pointe, is located in Ahoskie and provides a safe and affordable housing product for prospective teachers in the area.

    Salary supplements

    Instructional staff working in Hertford County are eligible for a salary supplement as Hertford County is identified as a low-wealth county. A yearly low-wealth supplement is paid by NCDPI in addition to the local district salary supplement. Additionally, all district staff, regardless of their role, are paid a local salary supplement (3% for certified and 1% for classified staff).

    Teachers working in Hertford County Public Schools can apply for Opportunity Culture positions. These positions are application-based and support teaching and learning across several classrooms. There are a variety of positions available, including Multi-Classroom Leader, Team Reach Teacher, and Reach Associate.     Hertford County, working together with Nucor Steel Hertford, are proud to offer a variety of financial support for staff members who are pursuing a variety of scholarly endeavours. Financial support is available for teachers completing residency courses, lateral entry teacher certification, masters or advanced degrees, and National Board Certification. We are thrilled by the opportunities these Nucor Scholarships present!     

    Coaching

    Teacher Apprenticeship Program

    We are proud to announce that Hertford County is one of the first counties in North Carolina to be approved by the NC Community College Apprenticeship Program to offer a Teacher Apprenticeship Program. This program provides Teacher Assistants with financial, coaching, and academic support for the purposes of degree completion. The mission of the teacher apprentice program is to inspire and cultivate excellence by investing in our educators to establish a legacy of quality teaching and learning.
