Eligibility Factors 

NC Pre-K is a program designed to serve at risk student populations. To be determined eligible for NC Pre-K your child must be 4 years of age on August 31st, 2026 AND meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

  • Family income is below 75% of SMI
  • Your child is an English language learner
  • Your child has an IEP (Individualized Education Program)
  • Your child demonstrates an identified developmental or educational need
  • Your child has a chronic health condition documented by a medical professional
  • Your family can claim military status
  • Your family can claim homelessness status
  • Your family received WIC, SNAP, Medicaid, Social Security, or refugee benefits
  • Your child is in foster care
  • Your family lives in public housing
